Taylor and Alex got married on the most beautiful summer day. The Teachout Building aka Teachout Events in Des Moines was the perfect backdrop for their intimate wedding day. They both got ready in different rooms at opposite sides of the building in the morning. I love that this venue has enough space for couples to be able to do this. They then had a personal first look in the ceremony venue space. After, we walked to the capital and took their portraits. After, their friends started to arrive and they spoke with them before hiding away for the ceremony. The ceremony included approximately 50 of their closest family and friends. It was officiated by a close friend and had many moments of laughter and sweet sincerity.

Their reception continued with sweet, sincere, and humorous moments. From their first dance to speeches. I had such a blast being a fly on the wall of their wedding day and helping it run smoothly. I will never say no to wedding days in Des Moines that are intimate, laid back and focused on the unity of the couple.

I am a Des Moines wedding photographer with 7 years of being a lead wedding photographer. I specialize in intimate wedding days (150 guests or less). If you are interested in learning more about my wedding day packages please visit the link below 👇

Living History Farms Wedding | Scott & Molly

Scott & Molly wanted a simple day at the Iowa Living History Farms. They started at the Church of the Land Chapel and ended at the Visitors Center for their reception. Their wedding day was full of intention and fun and they made it exactly how they wanted it to be. I had a blast coming along side of them and documenting it for them.

Scott & Molly wanted a simple day at the Iowa Living History Farms. They started at the Church of the Land Chapel and ended at the Visitors Center for their reception. Their wedding day was full of intention and fun.

They made the day exactly how they wanted it:

  • Incorporating their last name into fun elements (Heckman = Heck Yeah!)

  • No getting ready photos.

  • Waiting to see each other until they were walking down the aisle.

  • The ceremony with the sole focus of sharing the gospel.

  • Their first kiss as husband and wife photographed from the stage.

  • Ice cream for dessert instead of cake.

  • Spending the majority of their reception with each other and their guests

I had a blast coming along side and being a witness and getting to document their wedding day.

Des Moines Winter City Engagement Session - Laura & Derek

Click to see more of Laura & Derek’s downtown Des Moines winter engagement session. They even brought their pup for a few photos!

I photographed Laura’s older sister wedding at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden and was so excited when Laura reached out to me for her own wedding day at Toast Ankeny!

All of Derek and Laura’s major relationship milestones happen in the winter and in the city, so it made sense they take their engagement photos in the winter in the city as well. They also brought their mini Bernedoodle Norman for a few pictures which I loved! If you have pets, engagement sessions are a great time to get family photos 😊

Their engagement session is a great example that you can have vibrant photos even in the winter time when things aren’t quite looking like the winter wonderland we all envision and see on Pinterest. See for yourself below!

Aaron & Baylie Noce DSM Wedding Day

My first wedding of 2022. There is always something extra special about my first wedding of a year. All rested up and creative juices ready to flow I was pumped for Aaron and Baylie’s wedding day. Both were all smiles from start during getting ready downtown at the Des Moines Marriott to finishing up on the dance floor at Noce DSM. I can say with confidence that they fully took in and enjoyed every moment on their wedding day, which I loved seeing and want for all my couples!

My first wedding of 2022. There is always something extra special about my first wedding of a year. All rested up and creative juices ready to flow I was pumped for Aaron and Baylie’s wedding day to say the least 😊

Both were all smiles from start during getting ready downtown at the Des Moines Marriott to finishing up on the dance floor at Noce DSM. They did all the prep work before and truly were able to relax and have a blast during their day. I can say with confidence that they fully took in and enjoyed every moment on their wedding day, which I loved seeing and want for all my couples!

They decided to keep their wedding day small and invited 50 family members and friends. One huge plus of having a smaller wedding is that you get to spend real time interacting and experiencing the reception with your guests. And If you think less people means less of a party well Aaron and Baylie definitely proved that wrong! They had every single guest out of the dance floor up until I left. Not even tornado sirens stopped them (thank you Iowa weather). They even got me out on the dance floor with them for a song or two 😉

Thank you Aaron and Baylie for trusting me with your memories and making me feel like a close friend by the end of the day. Wishing you two a lifetime of love together 🥰

Des Moines Spring Outdoor Engagement Session | Ida & Jacob

Sometimes I get extra blessed with couples were we immediate click and feel like life long friends. The kind of couple who we just get each other and the more we learn about each other the more we ask “Did we just become best friends?”. Ida and Jacob were that couple for me this year.

Sometimes I get extra blessed with couples were we immediate click and feel like life long friends. The kind of couple who we just get each other and the more we learn about each other the more we ask “Did we just become best friends?”. Ida and Jacob were that couple for me this year.

Ida and Jacob ooze soulmates in the best way possible. While hanging out during their engagement session it was clear to me they are made for each other. The way the look at each other, talk about and with one another. It’s as good as it gets.

They requested nature only, so naturally we went to Water Works Park. Water Works NEVER disappoints and hit it out of the ball park for their engagement session. We got the best of the spring blooms, lake and open fields with yellow flowers sprinkled everywhere. The variety within this 2 mile radius is nuts to me (in the best way possible).

Ida and I bonded over the fact that we both thought dandelions were pretty and it was a shame people try to get rid of them. Seriously take a look at them. They add the perfect pop to these photos below 😍

If you are looking through these photos and saying “Hey! I’m a laid back Des Moines couple wanting quality photos that feel relaxed, real, fun and create memories in the process!” reach out below. We can bond over B-bops french fries being the best, Nacho Libre/Hot Rod quotes and talk about flowers that shouldn’t be considered a weed too.
